Over recent years we have had dozens of clients come to us with existing Modx websites who have needed support and help. Often their existing web designer was moving on or on some occasions, the relationship had broken down and the client has been left a little stranded.
These website owners have then approached us looking for support, guidance or help with future developments which we have always tried to offer. Some of these clients have been with us now for years and we are still supporting their existing websites.
This has not always been easy to do. All websites are built differently and some have a number of unique quirks or customisations that need reverse engineering before we are able to work with them but we nearly always are able to come up with a positive solution.
Over 10 years experience with Modx CMS
We started using Modx over ten years ago, and as you can imagine, we have built up a wealth of knowledge and experience in that time.
Initially we fell in love with the flexibility, speed and security that it had over other content management systems, but also it allowed us to build really cool websites and applications for customers in a way that made sense to both us and our clients.
Many people who come to us with existing Modx websites often feel a little bit intimidated by the CMS. It might not be as familiar to them as something like Wordpress or even Wix/Squarespace but often with a little bit of training and explanation we can show them the potential and power that their site has.
There are not a huge amount of Modx developers in the UK
If a website owner's relationship with their developer breaks down or is no longer viable, this can cause a bit of an issue. Where do you go? We are not the only UK based company that uses Modx, but not all of them would be willing to take on someone else’s website. We can offer support and honest advice to existing Modx website owners.
Despite all the potential challenges there is nearly always something we can do to help
Taking over a website is not always straightforward. You are never quite sure what you are about to inherit and how difficult it might be to work with the current code base, but we always try to find a way forward rather than just focusing on the problems. We are pleased to say that there is nearly always something we can do.
Investing time in relationships nearly always pays off
We always try to educate and empower our clients so that together we can make good decisions. We give honest advice - when something is not cost effective we will say so - and give reasons why. We want to build lasting relationships with our clients, and investing time early on pays off with a better understanding of a client's requirements.
With the right support guidance and help, Modx is still a really good CMS
This is a really important point to make. With so many different options available for CMS based sites, Modx still has a strong place. Quite often users come to us a little bit indifferent about their Modx site. Maybe they are finding their site a bit complicated to edit, or unable to do what they want.
This is more often than not due to the way it has been set up, and a bit of training and guidance can make a huge amount of difference.
Modx isn’t perfect, but no CMS is. However in most cases, it remains a really strong and good option for most websites that need a CMS.
What Modx support do we offer?
There are a number of ways we can help support you and your Modx website
1) MODX Hosting support
If you need to move away from your existing web designer, this can often mean you need to source new website hosting for your site.
We can supply you with low cost hosting (suitable for most sites) VPS servers and even dedicated set ups if required. We can help with the transfer and set up of the site on a new server space and support you with the required DNS changes. No problem.
2) MODX updates and website maintenance
Every website, no matter what software it is built on, needs regular updates and maintenance carried out on it. This is to ensure it continues to perform well and is kept up to date with security updates and patches. We offer this monthly service on all websites. ( Modx or Wordpress)
3) Future development
No website is ever truly finished - and there are often changes, developments and improvements you might like to make to your existing site. In most cases we are able to take your existing site and develop it further adding features, new pages, new functionality and design changes.
